When is a hero a superhero?
This is a common question, as any would argue that heroes like Batman, Ironman, Black widow, and Green Arrow aren’t really superheroes as they don’t have superpowers.
The definition of a hero is someone who displays courage, nobility and has performed an act of heroism. Whereas a superhero is someone who possesses extraordinary talents, supernatural phenomena or superhuman powers. Generally, a costumed figure that is dedicated to a moral goal or protecting the public.
The reason I feel characters that don’t have “powers” can still be considered superheroes is due to them having superhuman abilities, meaning they have exceptional abilities or skills in certain fields.
Some can argue that with proper training anyone can achieve these feats but in the case of Tony Stark (AKA Ironman), I feel that even if you studied to your hearts content you will still not be a “technological genius”. As with Batman many people could train as hard as he has and study several different fighting styles but how does one train mentally for the tasks that he accomplishes.
My opinion is that if someone helps people in a way that an average person couldn’t their a superhero in my book. That’s just my opinion let me know what you think in the comments below.
